I can't believe i've never seen this emulator before, the opengl mode is brilliant - very smooth and only about 40-50% CPU usage (AMD Athlon XP 2200+ and ATI Radeon 9600XT w/ fglrx drivers). But Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was so awful I couldn't play more than half an hour so I don't really have a need for a GBA emulator as of now
I dropped VisualBoyAdvance and I am now using mednafen which is perfect for me. We may both just have to settle this time Yeah, I still have 100% CPU usage myself, and it actually bogs down (!) during some action-intense parts. I now just play without throttle at about 150% and it's 'fine', but it's still using all of my CPU power (unrarring a file suddenly takes 10x as long when I'm playing). When I throttle at 100%, everything goes choppy and it's really hard to play anything.
I already have that version, with the gtk USE-flag. I emerged the latest version (1.7.2-r1) with USE=gtk and the throttle at 100% works beautifully. Not sure if this is still an issue for you, but I had the same problem (way too fast).Īctually, it still is, and I'm still looking for a good solution. I think you can specify a few extra options on the command line (that aren't in the config file) such as chosing a YUV overlay for drawing. The config file they use is /etc/games/VisualBoyAdvance.cfg and most of the options from the menus are in there and explained well. The command line version (/usr/games/bin/VisualBoyAdvance) uses the same config file as the GTK version so there shouldn't be many options that need changing. Is the command line a trick, do I need special options and stuff? I think I'll just Read The Fine Manual. The throttle option was one of the first things I tried, but for some reason if I use it (doesn't matter what percentage), the rendering is really crappy (jerky). Another problem I have is that performance is kinda sluggish/jerky: the speed alternates between 95% and 105% and so any movement isn't smooth.Įdit: actually, it seems I only get jerky performance when using gvba using the CLI seems smooth and you can use the YUV overlay options then. I also have an issue with it consuming 100% CPU when playing but not with it running too fast. Have you tried setting the throttle option to 100% I think it's disabled by default.
GBA EMULATOR MAC WITH SPEED UP PC
This PC is far more better than the one I tried it on Windows, and there it used like 5% CPU and 600% game speed, when not synchronized. I also noticed that it uses 100% CPU and that it runs on about 250% game speed. And I can't seem to find a correct command line options for VisualBoyAdvance either. On Linux I do not seem to have the Synchronize options (gvba, compiled VBA with +gtk).
GBA EMULATOR MAC WITH SPEED UP WINDOWS
I had this on Windows too, but I could just turn on the sound and it was fixed. If you want no sound, mute the sound instead of turning it off. If sound is off, there will be no synchronization and the emulator will run at maximum speed. option is checked on the Options->Emulator menu and that Sound is on.
If the emulator is running too fast, make sure that the Synchronize. I am using VisualBoyAdvance but everything is oo fast. Posted: Tue 5:08 pm Post subject: VBA - Too fast and 100% CPU Gentoo Forums Forum Index Gamers & Players Gentoo Forums :: View topic - VBA - Too fast and 100% CPU
